Platinum Mosquito Protection Mosquito Control System

Frequently Asked Questions

Platinum Mosquito Protection is dedicated to providing platinum protection against mosquitos and other unwanted insects. Serving residential and commercial clients in the Fort LauderdaleWest Palm Beach, and Miami areas for over 15 years, we’ve taken the time to assemble the answers to some of our frequently asked questions regarding our mosquito control methods and misting systems. Should you have a specific question not addressed here, please feel free to contact us via phone or email. We’ll do our best to answer you as promptly as possible.

Q. What is a mosquito control system?

A. Our mosquito control system is comprised of a 55-gallon drum, pump, motor, and pressure gauge that we connect to a network of spray nozzles installed strategically around your residential or commercial property. Using an automated timer to release a liquid insecticide solution that kills and repels mosquitos and other annoying insects, our system is hassle-free, simple to operate, and requires very little intervention from the owner. We’ll program the automatic timer and show you how to operate it on installation day. When the timer goes off, the system releases a brief, fine mist through the installed spray nozzles. That mist is all you need to control biting insects!

Q. What types of insects does your system control?

A. Our misting systems repel and kill mosquitos, no-see-ums, flies, fleas, gnats, ticks, wasps, and other types of biting, buzzing insects. They also repel spiders and their unsightly, hard-to-reach webs. Our automatic insect control systems and insecticides have been used in South Florida to repel and kill annoying insects for over 30 years.

Q. What kind of insecticide does your system use?

A. We use insecticides that blend natural pyrethrum, a derivative of certain species of chrysanthemums, and permethrin, another pyrethroid known as the synthetic form of pyrethrum. This blend of pyrethrum and permethrin creates superior results to those achieved when used separately. The pyrethrum provides a quick knockdown and kills the insect. The permethrin provides residual killing and repelling of the insect, a long-lasting characteristic that inhibits reinfestation. Pyrethrum and permethrin are biodegradable and provide a broad spectrum of insect control with low mammalian toxicity.

Our specially-formulated insecticide also contains piperonyl butoxide (PBO), a synergist that alters the penetration of the insecticides and decreases the time required for them to take effect on the insect’s central nervous system. It also aids in the battle against the insect’s resistance to the insecticide. Emulsifying ingredients result in a microemulsion that doesn’t separate, which means the active ingredients remain inconsistent concentration within the tank, so no stirring or agitation is required.

Q. Do you offer any “green” products or other insecticides?

A.
Yes! We also use products that contain either pyrethrum or permethrin, rather than a blend of both, and we also have products with different actives that can be used when needed. For customers who prefer “green” products, we also offer exempt alternatives classified as minimum-risk pesticides. These products will not provide the same knockdown punch of pyrethrum, but they will help you repel and reduce the number of insects in your area. As part of your on-site consultation, we’ll review the alternatives with you to help you make the best choice for you.

Q. What if I change my mind about which product I want to use?

A. No problem! The equipment is the same regardless of which product is used in your tank. You can change products any time there is a refill needed or can use different products at different times of the year. Just let us know your preferences and we will adjust as needed.

Q. Is this one of those propane systems I’ve seen before?

A. No! Propane-based machines emit carbon dioxide in an attempt to mimic a human and attract insects so that they can capture and kill them. What sense does that make? Our automatic misting systems repel and kill mosquitos and other biting insects. We don’t attract anything. Propane machines also require significant homeowner intervention and maintenance. With an automatic misting system, you just set your system’s timer and enjoy the great outdoors. We do all the rest!

Q. How much do your mosquito misting systems cost?

A. Our pricing varies by location depending upon the type and amount of coverage you need. That’s why we offer free on-site consultations. Our representatives will meet you at your location to evaluate your needs more accurately and gain more familiarity with your property. We custom-design our misting systems for every client/property’s needs. At the end of your consultation, you’ll receive a written price estimate. Once you’ve accepted our proposal, we’ll then schedule your installation date.

Q. How often will I need to refill my system’s tank?

A. Technically, you won’t ever have to worry about this because we do it for you! The frequency at which we’ll need to refill your tank will vary for each installation/client. Usage is determined by the number of nozzles, as well as the number and duration of firing cycles used within a 24-hour period. Once we custom-design your mosquito misting system, we’ll be able to determine the best routine maintenance schedule.

Q. Why do you offer on-site consultations – can’t we just talk on the phone?

A. No two outdoor areas in South Florida are quite the same. That’s why we prefer to stop by your site, so we can see where your pests are coming from, determine when they’re most active, talk to you about when and where you spend your time outdoors and get a basic feel for your landscaping and the surrounding area.

By visiting you for your consultation, we’re able to answer all of these questions to give you the best professional recommendations for your insect control needs. Sometimes a misting system is an ideal solution for your problem, and sometimes it’s not. There are a number of ways to approach any problem, and we prefer being hands-on to determine the best solutions for our clients. If you don’t have time to meet with us, we can evaluate the site ourselves and then review our findings with you by phone or email.
