Researchers have identified another mosquito-borne illness that causes fever and pain as well as brain inflammation and in some cases, death

Mosquitos. Most people dislike them, but what many people don’t realize is that mosquitos carry hidden dangers. You’ve probably heard all about the West Nile Virus, and whether you consider it a threat or not, it’s not the only thing you need to worry about.

Newer studies have shown that chikungunya (yes, you read that right), does more than just bring about fever and pain, it may also lead to brain inflammation (encephalitis) and even death. After studying a virus epidemic on Reunion Island (near Madagascar) lasting from 2005 to 2006, researchers found that 300,000 were sickened by the mosquito-borne virus, and of those 300,000, 24 developed encephalitis and of the 24, 4 people were killed by their infection.

Most common in babies and seniors, people who received the infection from mosquitos suffered joint paint, fever, and rash. Most people recover quickly, but for some, the danger is real and the symptoms could last for months or years.

With no vaccine currently available, or even medicine to treat the virus, and a spreading of the disease (7,000+ cases in Mexico as of September 2015), it’s best to keep the virus, and mosquitos, on your radar.

With some people developing persisting disabilities due to encephalitis, including problems with thinking and memory, and changes in behavior, there is more than one reason to protect yourself against mosquitos.

That’s where Platinum Mosquito Protection comes in. While the threat may still be small in the US, viruses spread by nature, and it’s important that you remain protected. Our automatic misting system not only protects against the pesky side of bugs but also the danger.

And since Florida’s warm, humid climate and standing waters are especially attractive to mosquitos, it’s even more important that residents take steps to eliminate these pests from their homes and outdoor areas. If you’d like to learn more about Platinum Mosquito Protection’s misting system and how they can help you live life without mosquitos® and the threats they pose, give us a call today.
